Paintings by Sally Probasco

Watercolor, Mixed Media

About

I started drawing at a young age and until today love that process as much as painting whether the drawing becomes the final piece or underlays a painting. I took lessons in oil as a young teen and liked the fluidity of oil and learned the mixing of color in that medium.

Throughout my working career and while raising a family, I continued to draw as it was mobile and easy to do when there wasn’t the time to paint. I did many drawings of people–my children, their classmates, friends and family—and flowers, structures and still life’s during those years.

After retirement I took classes and learned watercolor even though occasionally I worked in oil. In the last several years I’ve combined watercolor with other media, i.e., gel transfers of old and new ink drawings, gouache or tissue collage. When I have the chance, I like to paint “plein air” or from arranged objects which reminds me of the true shapes, colors, and perspective of living things and objects. My favorite subject has been animals, but I intersperse those paintings with more traditional subjects—florals, landscapes and portraits.

Lately I’ve enjoyed doing commissions of people’s pets, favorite landscapes or structures. The more I continue to paint I enjoy the process as much as the finished painting. And the camaraderie of painting with artist buddies is the best.

I am a member of AWA (Association of Wisconsin Artists, Inc.), Richland Area Arts Council, Inc. dba Red Door Gallery, and Madison Art Guild.

My website, paintings-by-sally.com, is designed by Tamara Tsurkan, silwikdesign@gmail.com, and I can’t praise her enough. Plus, she’s a wonderful artist in her own right.
